Siam Ahmed’s blockbuster Bangladeshi film Jongli is making headlines again — this time for breaking into the Pakistani market. Following its successful runs in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, Jongli is set to become the first Bangladeshi film ever dubbed in Urdu and released in Pakistan.
Previously, Bangladeshi superstar Shakib Khan’s films have been screened in Pakistan, but none had been dubbed into the local language. The Lahore-based distribution company Cine Entertainment is handling the release of Jongli in Pakistan. Speaking to the media, Cine Entertainment’s head Asif Chowdhury confirmed, “We’re excited to bring Jongli to Pakistani audiences in Urdu. We’ve finalized all formalities with the Bangladeshi production team, and the dubbing process is currently underway. This will be the first time a Bangladeshi film is presented in Urdu to Pakistani viewers.”
The film has already shown remarkable box office performance, with producer and distributor Zahid Hasan Abhi revealing that Jongli has grossed Tk 4.27 crore in Bangladesh and another Tk 75 lakh from overseas markets. Its total worldwide gross stands at an impressive Tk 5.02 crore.
Jongli tells the gripping story of Johnny, played by Siam Ahmed, whose transformation into a wild and reckless man is central to the plot. While the first half presents Siam in his signature “chocolate boy” charm, the latter half sees him break away from his usual roles, portraying a hardened, untamed character.
Notably, young actress Nairita shines alongside Siam, playing the role of Pakhi, a small girl who wanders the streets scavenging for food and repeatedly faces rejection before Siam’s character gradually embraces the role of a father figure.
The film, which released during Eid, also stars popular actresses Shabnam Bubly and Dighi, alongside veteran actors Dilara Zaman, Shahiduzzaman Selim, and Rashed Mamun Apu. With Jongli poised to make its mark in Pakistan, it signals a new chapter in cross-border film distribution and cultural exchange between the two nations.
