Shah Rukh Khan Makes History with His Dazzling Met Gala Debut in Sabyasachi
The moment fans have been waiting for has arrived — Shah Rukh Khan has officially made his much-anticipated debut at the Met Gala. The Jawan star became the first Indian male actor to walk the iconic Met Gala carpet, turning heads in a stunning all-black ensemble designed by the renowned Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
Shah Rukh’s look was a masterclass in classic menswear with a modern twist: high-waisted trousers with a satin kamarbandh, a black silk crepe shirt, and a sharply tailored tailcoat crafted from Tasmanian superfine wool, detailed with monogrammed Japanese horn buttons. Adding a royal touch, he accessorized with layered jewelry, including an oversized ‘K’ pendant — a subtle nod to his title as Bollywood’s ‘King Khan.’ Completing the look was a Bengal Tiger Head Cane, custom-made in 18k gold with tourmalines, sapphires, and diamonds.
On Instagram, Sabyasachi called Shah Rukh “a cinematic hero” and praised his international superstardom, explaining that his interpretation of the “Black Dandy” style was designed to showcase SRK’s iconic charisma on a global stage.
As expected, the internet exploded with reactions. While many fans swooned over his presence, calling him “fire” and praising his magnetic aura, others were more critical of the styling, with some calling the jewelry “tacky” and referring to the look as a “Sabyappointment.”
This year’s Met Gala theme, “Tailored for You,” ties into the Costume Institute’s 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebrating dandyism — a menswear tradition known for sharp tailoring and elegance within Black culture during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Not just Shah Rukh, designer Sabyasachi himself graced the carpet in a custom layered look: a white shirt under a trench and overcoat with a trail, black high-waisted trousers, and sleek black shoes, accessorized with a choker, rings, and a brooch-adorned headgear.
Joining Shah Rukh at the fashion world’s biggest night were other Indian stars like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Kiara Advani, Isha Ambani, Diljit Dosanjh, Mona Patel, and designer Manish Malhotra — marking a powerful presence for India at the Met Gala 2025.
