Breaking Barriers: Jakaria’s Journey from Village Hardship to BUET Triumph

Jakaria, a determined young man from the remote village of Chorkadai in Sirajganj, has achieved what once seemed impossible—he has become the first person from his village to gain admission to Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), one of the country’s most prestigious institutions. Securing the 383rd spot in the highly competitive Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department, his story shines as a beacon of perseverance, sacrifice, and self-belief.

Jakaria grew up in a landless farmer’s household, where money was always tight. His father worked tirelessly on others’ land, while his sisters sacrificed their education to help at home. His elder brother took on grueling labor in distant districts like Faridpur and Tangail, sending home what little he earned to support the family.

Despite these hardships, Jakaria never lost sight of his dream. Without access to private tutors or fancy coaching centers, he turned to free online resources like YouTube, old test papers, and secondhand books. His family rallied behind him: his brother’s hard-earned money paid for an online course, and a portion of his aunt’s land was sold to cover coaching exam fees. Jakaria himself worked as a tutor for younger students, often skipping meals or cutting personal expenses to save money.

For two years, he poured 12–13 hours a day into studying, often crammed into a noisy mess room. Even when his father fell seriously ill with tuberculosis, Jakaria stayed focused. Financial pressures meant he could apply to only three universities—BUET, KUET, and Dhaka University—and traveling to exams meant standing in overcrowded trains and sleeping in cheap hostels arranged through acquaintances.

On BUET’s result day, Jakaria battled poor internet and a dying phone battery, initially thinking he hadn’t made the list. But a senior soon confirmed the stunning news: he had secured the 383rd position and earned a coveted spot in BUET’s EEE department. His family, overjoyed, wept with happiness—their years of sacrifice had finally borne fruit.

Jakaria’s journey is not just about academic success; it’s about resilience, determination, and family. Today, he hopes his story will inspire other rural youth to believe that no dream is too big, no matter how humble their beginnings. His message to others: embrace struggle, trust in self-study, and let your family’s sacrifices fuel your ambition.

Jakaria’s success is living proof that when the will is strong, no obstacle is too great.
