Australian Teen Sprinter Shatters U-20 200m Record, Surpasses Bolt’s Age Benchmark
The Chronify
Gout Gout clocks 19.67 seconds at national championships, emerging as one of the fastest young sprinters in history.
A rising Australian sprinter has captured global attention after delivering a remarkable performance in the 200 meters, surpassing Usain Bolt’s age-level benchmark and setting a new national record.
Gout Gout, a South Sudanese-origin athlete representing Australia, completed the 200m race in 19.67 seconds at the national championships. While Bolt’s all-time world record of 19.19 seconds, set in 2009, remains untouched, Gout’s timing places him ahead of where the Jamaican legend stood at the same age.
At under-20 level, Bolt’s best time was 19.93 seconds, meaning Gout has already outpaced the sprint icon in youth performance comparisons. According to Australian media reports, the 19.67-second finish is not only a national record but also the second-fastest time ever recorded in the U-20 category.
The fastest under-20 200m time still belongs to American sprinter Erriyon Knighton, who clocked 19.49 seconds in 2022.
Born in Queensland, Gout had previously recorded a time of 19.84 seconds last year, though it was wind-assisted and not officially recognized. His latest run, achieved under legal conditions, confirms his rapid progression and growing status in global athletics.
Speaking after the race, Gout expressed confidence in his abilities, saying the performance reassured him of his speed and physical potential. He added that he feels ready to push for even greater achievements.
His coach, Di Sheppard, admitted surprise at the result, noting that while a sub-20-second finish was expected, such a dramatic improvement exceeded expectations.
In the same race, Aiden Murphy also impressed by finishing second with a time of 19.88 seconds, making him the second-fastest Australian in the 200m event.
With this breakthrough performance, Gout Gout has firmly established himself as one of the most promising young sprinters to watch on the international stage.
